Sense and Sensibility

Today’s quick smile is for the movie Sense and Sensibility (1995).  If I had to summarize this film in one word, I might choose “uplifting”.  I’m a newcomer to Austen’s work, but I am starting to understand the mass-appeal.  Her books have been on my to-read list for quite some time.  The actors flawlessly crafted charming, believable characters.  Mrs. Jennings was hilarious and terrifying.  I know it’s probably not kosher to start with the movies in the case of such classics, but Sara wanted for me to see this one and I can’t say honestly that I would change a thing.  One day I’ll pick up the novel and expand my understanding of the piece.

  1. Austen’s work definitely has mass appeal. All about tortured love and how you end up with someone. Beautiful writing and, if you know a bit about the times, slightly scandalous writing. Dancing is a theme in her books because it was the only way you could appropriately touch another person who was not your husband. Beautiful, isn’t it?

  2. I don’t even understand how I ended up here, however I believed this put up was good. I don’t recognize who you are however
certainly you’re going to a well-known blogger when you aren’t already.
    Cheers!
